Women Writing for (a) Change Louisville
A Haven for Women and Their Words
Home & Events      About Us
Women Writing for (a) Change is a feminist writing academy intended to free women from the confines of traditional academic classes.  We have no textbooks and no assignments, no grades or evaluations.  Instead, women are given opportunities to write in class in response to prompts and activities, and to bring in writing they've done outside of class.  Feedback on writing is given only when and how asked for, and feedback formats are used to ensure that women receive only what they will find helpful and encouraging.
The purpose of this class is to be an antidote to traditional-style classes in which students are expected to produce, conform, and defend.  Many students come to WWf(a)C having been "ripped apart" in another class, and are relieved to find that this school is a safe place for them to explore and grow as writers.  This is not to say that students do not receive feedback that helps them improve as writers
--just the contrary: we believe in giving constructive criticism, but in such a way that it can be heard, accepted, and appreciated.  In order for that to happen, consciousness must be continually brought to the feedback process.
