Women Writing for (a) Change offers writing classes for women
writers in a supportive, encouraging atmosphere. We value creativity, courage, and compassion, and seek to create a community in which each woman is free to find her own words and speak in her own voice. | |
|
|
Unlike traditional or academic writing classes, Women Writing for (a) Change classes include no syllabi, no textbooks, and no assignments. Women are given prompts to inspire writing and the opportunity to share their words and receive thoughtful, nurturing feedback. Once a semester, the class holds a public read-around when women friends are invited to come and hear students read their work (as with all sharing, it is always honorable for a student to pass). Classes are meant to be a time away from the bustle of life when attention can be turned to writing and reflection, and are conducted in a meditative circle, warmed with cups of herbal tea. | Updated May 24, 2010 |
SUMMER 2010
NEW! FREE Drop-In Classes will be offered (roughly) once a month beginning in June. These classes are open to all students (previous or current), as well as new students who are interested and want to see what the class is like. Each session will include time to write, share, catch up, and talk about how writing fits into our lives. Please call or email to let me know you'll be attending (if we reach a certain size, I'll need to find a larger space). Current dates are: Tuesday June 8, Sunday July 11, Wednesday August 18, and Tuesday September 7. (Weekday meetings are 6 to 8 p.m, weekend meetings are 1 to 3 p.m.) Contact Kit to register.
Summer Writing Practice Group. This is a feedback group aimed at helping women begin/continue a writing practice during those summer months when everything else seems to get in the way. The group meets every other week for nine weeks (five meetings total) and will include the usual prompts, poetry, and feedback opportunities as well as discussion of how to make writing part of our lives. Attendence is flexible due to holidays, vacations, etc. Tuition is $75 for the nine weeks. Every other Thursday beginning June 17th and ending August 12th. Contact Kit to register.
AUTUMN 2010
NEW! Creative Writing will be offered through the Delphi Center (UofL's adult enrichment program) as an 8-week series.
Whether you want to write fiction, memoir, or poetry, this class will get you excited, banish anxiety, and help you find a form for the stories you want to tell. We’ll focus on generating and developing ideas through the use of prompts and activities while boosting your confidence with supportive feedback. Brand-new and experienced writers welcome. Additional genres (playwriting, travel writing, etc.) available if requested. The class will be held Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m, beginning October 19th and ending December 7th. The cost is $99. Click here to register.
Writing About Our Families will be offered again through the Delphi Center (UofL's adult enrichment program) as an 8-week series. Do you want to preserve your family stories for all time? To tell the story of Aunt Maggie the free spirit, or Grandpa Joe who stormed the beaches of Normandy, or your daughter and her first birthday party? This eight-week class is an opportunity for both new and experienced writers to record and reflect upon their families and family stories, to explore memories and perspective, and to create lasting narratives for future generations. Although this co-ed class will be hosted by the Delphi Center, we will continue using the the WWf(a)C model for classes. (Students who have taken the class before are welcome to take it again, although the class content will change very little.) The class will be held Monday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m beginning September 13th and ending November 1st. The cost is $99. Click here to register.
